What Is a Lone Worker?

A lone worker is anyone who works by themselves without direct supervision.
This could be:
A maintenance technician on-site out of hours
A security guard patrolling alone
A delivery driver on the road
A site worker in a remote or high-risk location
InTouch Ltd offers specialist lone worker communication systems to help businesses protect employees in these scenarios — and comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and Lone Worker Regulations.
Our Lone Worker Solutions Include
1. Two-Way Radios with Lone Worker Functionality. Many of our professional-grade radios come equipped with:
-
Lone Worker Timers – Automatically prompt workers to check in at regular intervals
-
Man Down Alerts – Detect sudden falls or lack of movement
-
Emergency Buttons – Allow instant alert to supervisors or control rooms
-
GPS Location Tracking – Monitor outdoor worker location in real time
2. Customised Alert and Response Systems
We configure radios and systems based on your risk level, location type, and response procedures — ensuring your lone worker policy is fully supported by the right technology.

How does Lone Worker Alerting Work?
When lone worker is activated on your device, a silent timer will begin to countdown based on a pre agreed and programmed time period (usually 20 minutes).
This timer is monitoring for inactivity on the device (ie no buttons pressed).
If after the timed period, there has been no activity form the user, the device will perform a 'check in' chirp to remind the user that they must press a button to restart the timer and confirm that they are safe and well
If the user does not confirm they are safe then the device will raise an alarm to the other radios on site to alert to a potential problem.
The lone worker can then be checked on to ensure they are safe, or else the issue can be dealt with.
